The RUYAGE UV5R, also marked as UV-5R on the radio, is a programmable 6 band analog walkie talkie with wideband receiving capabilities for licensed radio users, outdoor activities, radio monitoring and compatible professional communication systems.
Featuring three listed transmit/receive frequency ranges, broad reception coverage, 128 programmable channel memories, wireless frequency copy, multiple scanning functions, an 1800mAh rechargeable battery and a large LCD display, the UV5R combines flexible radio functions in a compact handheld design.
The UV5R communicates directly with compatible analog two-way radios and does not require cellular service, WiFi, a SIM card, Zello or a PoC service plan. Available frequencies and legal transmit capability depend on the regional version, firmware, programming, equipment authorization and local radio regulations.
The RUYAGE UV5R provides three manufacturer-listed analog transmit and receive frequency ranges for use with compatible and properly configured radio systems.
Frequency coverage does not mean that every frequency within these ranges is legally available for transmission. Some frequencies require an amateur or business radio licence, compatible equipment certification or specific authorization. Other frequencies are reserved for aviation, public safety, government, maritime or emergency services.
In addition to its listed transmit ranges, the UV5R provides wide receiving coverage across multiple frequency segments.
Actual available coverage may vary by regional version, firmware and programming. Receiving a frequency does not authorize transmitting on it, and local laws may also restrict the monitoring or disclosure of certain communications.
The UV5R supports AM aviation-band reception from 108–135.975 MHz, providing additional monitoring capabilities for radio and aviation enthusiasts where reception is legally permitted.
Never transmit on aviation frequencies. Aviation communications are safety-critical and require specifically authorized equipment, frequencies and operator qualifications.
The UV5R can receive supported NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts when the user is within range of a compatible transmitter in the United States or covered territories.
NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts on seven official frequencies between 162.400 and 162.550 MHz. A radio may display additional weather-channel memory positions, but this should not be described as ten separate NOAA broadcast frequencies.
Unless automatic alert decoding is specifically confirmed in the official manual, this feature should be described as NOAA Weather Radio reception, not a guaranteed NOAA weather alert system.
The integrated FM broadcast receiver covers the listed 76–108 MHz range, allowing users to listen to supported local FM radio stations when available.
FM broadcast reception and AM aviation-band reception are separate functions and should not be described together as “AM/FM aviation communication.”
Store and organize up to 128 programmable channel memories for compatible frequencies, groups and operating configurations.
The 128-channel capacity describes the radio's memory locations. It does not mean that 128 frequencies are automatically licensed or legally authorized for transmission.
The frequency copy function helps detect compatible frequency and signaling settings from a nearby analog two-way radio, making supported radio setup faster and more convenient.
Successful frequency copying depends on signal strength, modulation, bandwidth, signaling and radio compatibility. Copying a detected frequency does not authorize transmission on that frequency.
The listed wireless replication function allows compatible UV5R radios to copy supported programming settings without individually configuring every radio.
Compatibility may depend on hardware version, firmware and programming. Do not assume that every radio using the UV5R or UV-5R name supports the same wireless replication protocol.
The UV5R includes scanning and analog signaling tools for locating active compatible signals and managing programmed channels.
CTCSS and DCS can help filter unwanted channel audio, but they do not encrypt a conversation or prevent other radios from receiving it.
The manufacturer lists ten scrambler groups and eight selectable privacy settings for use with compatible radios configured with matching functions.
These analog voice-processing features should not be advertised as secure or cryptographic encryption. They may reduce casual intelligibility but do not make conversations private, confidential or protected from determined monitoring.
The UV5R includes a listed cross-band communication mode for use with compatible and properly programmed frequency configurations.
Exact operation depends on firmware and programming. This function should not be described as an automatic cross-band repeater unless repeater operation is specifically confirmed in the official manual.
Selectable transmit power levels allow users to balance radio performance and battery consumption according to the communication environment.
The rated wattage is not confirmed in the current specifications and should not be added to the title until supported by the official manual or a documented RF output test.
The UV5R can provide extended direct communication in favorable open and unobstructed environments when properly programmed to authorized frequencies.
The manufacturer lists a maximum range of up to 3 km under favorable conditions. Actual range may be considerably shorter and depends on terrain, buildings, antenna position, frequency, interference, power level and surrounding conditions.
The included 1800mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides portable power for everyday communication and outdoor activities.
Actual operating and standby time depends on transmit power, battery condition, scanning, display use, flashlight use, volume, temperature and the amount of time spent transmitting.
The large backlit LCD display and full keypad provide convenient access to channels, frequencies and supported radio settings.
The built-in flashlight provides supplemental lighting for outdoor activities, nighttime operation and emergency preparedness. The local emergency alert function provides an additional radio alarm option.
The emergency function does not contact emergency services, transmit a GPS location or replace a mobile phone, satellite messenger, emergency beacon or certified life-safety communication device.
The UV5R can be used in a variety of compatible communication environments.
The UV5R is not waterproof and has no confirmed IP rating. Keep the radio dry and protect it from rain, immersion and excessive moisture.

Customers outside the United States should confirm charger-plug compatibility before ordering. Package contents may vary by destination or selected product option.
The current product information lists three transmit and receive ranges: 136–173.975 MHz, 350–399.975 MHz and 400–469.974 MHz. It is therefore more accurately described as a tri-band analog radio with additional wideband receiving capabilities.
The manufacturer lists a maximum range of up to 3 km under favorable conditions. Actual range can be significantly shorter inside buildings, cities, forests, valleys or other obstructed environments.
The radio provides high, medium and low power selection, but an exact rated wattage is not confirmed in the current product specifications. Do not rely on wattage contained only in an old URL or third-party listing.
The radio has listed AM airband reception from 108–135.975 MHz. This is a receive-only function. Never transmit on aviation frequencies.
It can receive supported NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts when within range of a compatible transmitter. NOAA primarily serves the United States and covered territories, so reception is not guaranteed in the United Kingdom or other countries.
The listed scrambler and privacy settings should not be treated as secure cryptographic encryption. Analog transmissions may still be received or recovered using compatible monitoring equipment.
It may communicate with compatible analog radios when both devices use the same authorized frequency, modulation, bandwidth and signaling settings. A matching model name is not required.
No assumption should be made based only on the UV5R or UV-5R model name. This listing is for a RUYAGE-branded radio. Firmware, frequency coverage, accessories, programming files, certifications and wireless replication functions may differ from products sold by other brands.
No. The UV5R communicates directly with compatible analog radios and does not require cellular data, WiFi, a SIM card, Zello or a PoC service plan.
No. The UV5R has no confirmed IP waterproof rating. Keep the radio dry and do not expose it to rain or water immersion.
Licensing requirements depend on the country, programmed frequency, transmit power, equipment authorization and intended use. The UV5R should not be advertised as universally licence-free.
The UV5R is a programmable multi-band radio. Hardware receiving or programming coverage does not authorize transmission on every available frequency.
Users are responsible for lawful programming, licensing and operation. Do not transmit on aviation, NOAA weather, emergency-service, public-safety, government, maritime or other restricted frequencies.
Reception and monitoring laws also vary by country. Always comply with the radio and communications regulations applicable in your location.
Compare the UV5R with more RUYAGE analog two-way radios, long-range walkie talkies and outdoor walkie talkies to find the right communication solution for your application.
